With the long weekend ahead, was thinking of having a DVD marathon and to celebrate Women's month, would like to share some movies I love which have been both heart-wrenching and empowering for women. The list is not ordered in any way but I placed my 2 most favorites on top of the list:
1. The Color Purple
My favorite line in the movie: "I think it pisses God off when you walk by the color
purple and you don't notice it."
2. The Bridges of Madison County
If you've found "The One", would you let him go? For me, the most poignant part
of the story/ movie was when Francesca was holding on to the door lock of her
husband's truck, seeing the whites of her knuckles and trying with all her might to
fight the urge to open it and run to her Robert. I don't think I would have the
same courage as Francesca especially when Robert declared "This kind of
certainty comes but once in a lifetime and never again."
3. The Joy Luck Club
Best mother-daughter movie. Favorite line in the movie was from An-Mei: " I tell
you the story because I was raised the Chinese way. I was taught to desire
nothing, to swallow other people's misery, and to eat my own bitterness. And even
though I taught my daughter the opposite, still she came out the same way. Maybe
it is because she was born to me and she was born a girl, and I was born to my
mother and I was born a girl, all of us like stairs, one step after another, going up,
going down, but always going the same way. No, this cannot be, this not knowing
what you're worth, this not begin with you. My mother not know her worth until
too late - too late for her, but not for me. Now we will see if not too late for you,
hmm?"
4. Memoirs of a Geisha
Where Ken Watanabe became a crush :-) sigh...
To overcome all obstacles, all for love...
Tear-jerker line from Sayuri "Can't you see? Every step I have taken, since I was
that child on the bridge, has been to bring myself closer to you."
5. Practical Magic
One of my sister's all time faves. Gives a new meaning to sisterhood!
6. The Devil Wears Prada
Loved Meryl Streep here! She is in a word LETHAL and yet you can't help but
look up to her as the boss from hell. Kinda reminds me of my previous job though
my boss was never like that. What I related to was how much I learned about my
potential skills and hidden strength in such a hellish environment.
7. The First Wives Club
Well this was my all-time favorite chick-empowering movie before Sex and the
City came. A must-see! First wives always get the last laugh!
8. Sex and the City
The list wouldn't be complete without the girls who made sex glamorous!

John Malkovich and Frances McDormand in Transformers 3
Whoa...Oscar-greats signs on to be in the "robots in disguise" sequel? This story from Jeff Sneider of Parallel Universe is as perplexing as the riddle of the Sphynx!
I have no idea where Director Michael Bay is bringing Transformers 3's story line with this one but I sure hope that it would be a major improvement from Transformers 2 which was one of the big disappointments of 2009.
Transformers 3 is set to be released in July 2011.
